Coffee Table Book! Sara + Jacob

Classic… elegant… casual… these were our thoughts in designing Sara and Jacob’s one-image-per-page Coffee Table Book. We wanted to present them with something timeless and lovely, with a modern flair provided by the book’s pliant glossy pages. We’re excited to send this book to print!

Coffee Table Book! Anna + Trey

Sometimes it’s really cool to go back to a wedding we shot several months ago and create a book. I forget about the images we loved, and the moments that really struck us at the time.

Anna and Trey’s wedding was our first of 2007, so it was extra-special to us. They were (and are!) such a fantastic couple, so working through their photographs again to build their book was so much fun!

They selected a one-image-per-page Coffee Table Book by AsukaBook. It’s more challenging that you might think to create a visually impacting, photo-centric book with only a single image on each page!

It really forced me to see the images as they ARE, rather than overlooking the storytelling elements and simply designing. Designing this way teaches me a lot about shooting, actually. I really enjoyed the challenge, and I’m loving the end result!

As always, Dan came through with a cool cover, inspiration taken from Anna and Trey’s invitation which had the same fantastic green swirls!

Coffee Table Book! Emmeline + Bobby

With 80 pages and 160 images, Emmeline and Bobby’s Coffee Table Book by AsukaBook is one of the most complete layouts I’ve ever created.

It was a lot of fun to compose pages with so many images!

Emmeline and Bobby’s printed book will have lustrous matte-finish pages and a black slipcase, and it will look and feel much like an art book you would find at the bookstore.

As always, Dan came through with a stellar cover!

Here is that cover design, along with a few pagespreads* from the book:

(*What’s a pagespread? A pagespread is a two-page layout, like what you see when you open a magazine and lay it flat on your lap. Each pagespread below is both the left and right pages of the open book, designed as one panoramic image.)

Coffee Table Book! Rachel + Jason

Perhaps I’m biased, but I just LOVE the covers and intro pages Dan creates for our books and albums! They never cease to amaze me! I do the interior album layouts, but I leave all the covers and intro pages up to Dan; he’s too, too good at it!

Case in point is the intro page for Rachel and Jason’s 10×10 80-page EX AsukaBook:

The cover is even better:

Their wedding colors were pink and brown, with a really earthy, yet clean and modern feeling. I love Dan’s take on this, with a crumpled kraft paper look on the cover and the bold text.

I’ll wrap this post up before Dan realizes I’m gushing about him and I get in trouble. *wink*

SlideShow Pro

We’re extremely honored to have been mentioned on the News section of the official SlideShow Pro website.

For those of you who may not know, SlideShow Pro is a great Flash-based system for creating galleries and albums, with an easy-to-use web interface. It’s fully customizable so that anyone can create a gallery that matches the look and feel of their website, and it all works great, we would recommend to anyone, amateur and professional alike.

SlideShow Pro has gained a strong following with professional photographers and even folks in other professions. Hilary Clinton’s official campaign website is even using SSP!

Many thanks go out to Todd Dominey and Brad Daily for creating the “guts” that make SSP so great. We will continue to use and implement SSP into our website and all of our future projects.

New Home… New Blog!

Well, as we stated in our last post, we’re moving from our small apartment, to our brand new home studio, a loft in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

To help celebrate this big change, we’re “moving in” to a new blog too!

We’ve done some general cleaning up and re-designing, and we hope you like what we’ve come up with. Our opinion is that this new design better represents our aesthetic and the direction we’re going as artists.

We will be back in the office, and writing new posts later this week, so kick back, and enjoy the new blog!
